    A KinesioGeek Manifesto

    August 29, 2018 /

KinesioGeek is a term that I began using jokingly to refer to my own brand of nerdiness a few years ago and I was surprised when others began using the term themselves. I realized I had struck a cord – this was something we could identify with. Do we need a manifesto? Not really. But this is what I stand for in my industry in a nutshell, and if you want to stand with me I am thrilled to see you here!  To read the magazine, check out gemskinesiology.com And in text below for those who can’t see the image properly: I will use what I know to create balance…

Using Knowlative in Class and why it Rocks!

    July 28, 2018 /

So many things sound great in theory, but then, when you actually look closer, fall short. Now that some of the features of Knowlative are up and running, I want to share how I am using this in my work as an instructor. I am a week into what will end up being about six weeks solid of teaching with classes in BC Canada and then through 3 of the United States. Mostly, these are SIPS (Stress Indicator Point System) classes, a modality which makes heavy use of the acupressure system. Knowlative is a tool that I can offer my students in order to help them point locate in class.…

    Goodbye Happily Holistic

    May 2, 2018 /

Warning: nostalgia which may or may not become schmaltzy. My old office is closing. Happily Holistic, the business we began when we returned from Costa Rica, built for five years and then sold. I am feeling a little bit heartbroken over this. I knew that it wasn’t mine anymore after I sold it and tried to stay out of their business. But this forces me to think about it a little bit; what made it successful for those five years? Yeah, I know it probably sounds like I am saying that I am the secret sauce in this equation, but I know that isn’t the case. I think the difference…

    April 19, 2018 /

Putting something new out into the world can be terrifying. Saturday morning I woke before my alarm, even though it was early and I had been up until 1:00am the night before working on the final details. Launch day – time to ship. For the last 7 months I have been part of a team that has been working on a new App for Specialized Kinesiology practitioners. Something new and scary that has the potential to change the way things are done completely, while also having the potential to create anger or confusion. I am thrilled with this App and what it represents; all the things that I fully believe…

Touch for Health Instructor Training – Some thoughts.

    December 9, 2017 /

John Thie’s original vision for Touch for Health involved having people on every street helping their families, friends and neighbours achieve health and balance in a gentle and holistic way. This is the legacy we find ourselves entrusted with nearly 50 years later. Great strides have been made – you can now attend a TFH class almost anywhere in the world, but TFH on every street? We are a long ways from that still! If we want this dream to be a reality, we need to create more instructors who can go forth and share what they know with more people. This is the reason why I began the process…

    Touch for Health Testimonial

    November 20, 2017 /

What’s it like to take a Touch for Health Intensive in Costa Rica? After teaching my first one here in August I wrote this blog post called The Power of One (which you can read here) about the experience from my perspective and what I learned in the process. Today I received an email from a student with her thoughts about the experience, which I am so touched to receive and honored to share with you: “I was so fortunate to experience a Touch for Health Intensive (levels 1-4) in Costa Rica with Alexis Costello. I had the option to take the courses in my home town, however, I am…

    GEMS Nutrition

    October 28, 2017 /

We love food. I have written before about how, when you start doing any type of homesteading, you become basically food-obsessed. I think many people in the holistic health industry find themselves in this position, learning more about the body means learning more about how to feed it for optimum performance. GEMS Nutrition is a course that has been percolating in my mind for a long time. I thought it was done nearly two years ago, then found out to my chagrin when I sent the files to a student, that I had somehow saved over some of the files incorrectly. As we had just moved to the rainforest all…

    The Power of One

    August 30, 2017 /

Teaching a Touch for Health Retreat for One Student and What I Have Learned I didn’t want to come here to teach this class with one student. Not just because it’s financially ridiculous (which it is); but because I was concerned about the student’s experience. How would it work? Would she really ‘get it’ without having a variety of people (and their associated issues) to work on? Here’s what I learned form teaching a Touch for Health Intensive (all four levels over eight days) with just one student here for a retreat. A reminder of how well this stuff works. While this was an extremely challenging week for me in…

5 Ways to be a Good SK Teacher

    July 3, 2017 /

I am happiest when teaching a Specialized Kinesiology class. (Don’t tell my husband!) Any of them. All of them. Touch For Health, GEMS (Goal, Element, Mode Stack), SIPS (Stress Indicator Point System), TFH Instructor Training Workshops – I don’t care, they are all ridiculously fun to teach in their own ways. In the last year I have been given the responsibility to train instructors for various classes. While helping guide new instructors and assessing those teaching for their ability to progress to other levels, I find myself asking, what makes a good Specialized Kinesiology teacher? While there are many resources and guides for how to be a good teacher in…
